Spanish-language library Latin Mex spans action, comedy, drama, westerns and other popular Hispanic genres.

Mañana Media has acquired Spanish-language library Latin Mex, featuring more than 1,000 feature film titles.

The Latin Mex library spans action, comedy, drama, westerns and popular U.S. Hispanic genre ‘jaripeo’ (also known as rodeo). Mañana touts Latin Mex as the largest collection of Spanish-language feature films, versus other such libraries that specialize in TV-based properties such as telenovelas.

Going forward, Mañana will be self-distributing the Latin Mex titles as well as linking into a distribution partner to help service them to the large chains.

Mañana has not yet specified its first releases from the Latin Mex purchase.

The supplier’s goal is to specially target dollar stores with these Spanish-language films. Mañana president Bruce M. Friedman has previously delivered beauty products to this discount channel and will use those existing retail relationships to deliver the DVD titles.

Additionally, Mañana will create separate, premium configurations, with sets likely holding two or three discs, for sale at the major chains.

“With this acquisition, the depth and breadth of our Spanish-language film library is now unrivaled in the industry,” said Ron Vaisbort, CEO of Mañana Media. “With this acquisition, we are well positioned to provide excellent product and support to our retail and wholesale distribution partners and deliver the most in-demand entertainment content to the fastest growing audience in America.”

Vaisbort hopes to fill a void for Spanish-language entertainment options. Although a large percentage of the approximately 50 million Hispanics in the U.S. predominantly speak Spanish, there is not much content geared for them.

“When you compare media choices for the Spanish speaker and the English speaker, there are far fewer for the Spanish consumer,” said Vaisbort. “There are 250 or more English-language channels with TV shows and movies. But it’s much more limited with Spanish language.”

Mañana Media is a newly formed corporation, backed by Capital Media Ventures LLC, a Los Angeles-based private equity firm.
